The GolfTrout Tournament

Arrive early and fish the Yampa, Elk and surrounding waters to get tuned up. Get your gear dialed in at one of the outstanding local fly shops. They have been the backbone of this tournament throughout its history, providing water access, guides, and great prize donations. They know the valley – and they’ve got the goods. They can help you with current fishing conditions, gear, fly selections and Colorado fishing licenses.

The tournament kicks off Friday evening at a memorable local venue with the official team check-in. There will be plenty of refreshments and hors d’oeuvres. You’ll pick up your swag bag full of GolfTrout goodies. Members of YVSICT will be on hand, along with the guides, to answer your questions and to welcome your team to this great event.

During the evening we’ll have a live auction for some very special private water. This is our main fund-raising opportunity, so come prepared to open your wallets and drive up the bids for the best private water. When the auction concludes, teams will be paired with their guide for the tournament. You’ll assess equipment needs, winning fishing and golf strategies, and Saturday morning meet-up details.

Saturday consists of a full day of guided fly-fishing on some of the most exclusive private trout water in the Yampa Valley.

Your team will meet your guide at a location and time mutually agreed upon Friday night. Fishing officially starts at 8:00 a.m. and runs until either the water temperature reaches 68 degrees, or 5:00 p.m. Your guide will bring lunches and limited beverages and is the official judge and scorekeeper for your team as you spend the day competing for top honors in the fishing category.

After fishing, your guide will turn in your score card to the tournament directors for official scoring. You’ll have an opportunity to take a quick nap and get cleaned up before everyone meets for a festive banquet at an extraordinary local restaurant. There will be great food, fun, cocktails, and a live auction for a few showpiece experiences. With the fishing scores will be tallied, the tournament leader board will be unveiled.

REMEMBER: All the guides are donating their time for this tournament, so your generous tips are encouraged and very welcomed!

The final day begins early at one of our exceptional local golf courses. You’ll enjoy coffee, breakfast burritos and a Bloody Mary bar before heading to the driving range and practice green. You’ll also be able to purchase mulligans which may come in handy on the course.

Around 10:00 a.m. (game day call based on current conditions) you’ll tee off with a “shotgun scramble.” There will be opportunities to compete for the longest drive, the closest to the pin, hole-in-one, and other fun events. Lunch is provided on the course.

After everyone completes 18 holes, the final awards and prizes are presented while everyone swaps fishing and golf tales.
